Vanderbilt held on to its number 15 spot in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, released Sept. 12.
Rice University and University of Notre Dame moved up to the 15 spot from number 18 last year. Cornell University also remained in the 15 spot from the previous list, creating a 4-way tie for the spot between the universities.
Washington University in St. Louis, who used to share the 15 spot with Vanderbilt and Cornell, moved down to spot 19. Princeton University remains the top university for the sixth straight year in a row. Brown University holds the number 14 spot again, just ahead of Vanderbilt.
