The VSG Elections Committee temporarily paused campaigning for the upcoming VSG presidential and vice-presidential elections for both tickets on March 17, according to vice presidential candidate Amisha Mittal.

“The VSG Elections Commission has called a pause on all campaigning for both teams and will notify both tickets when the suspension has been lifted,” Mittal said in a message to The Hustler.

Student Body President Veer Shah and Elections Committee Chair Jay Patel did not respond to requests for comment.

This move comes after two days of campaigning from both tickets. As of now, there has been no update to the election schedule.

“Yesterday marked the start of campaign week for Student Body President and Vice President. During the next week and a half, Presidential candidates are allowed to advertise themselves and share their motivations, their values, and their vision for the next year of our community,” a March 16 email from VSG stated.

In a student GroupMe, Kayla Prowell, vice presidential candidate running alongside Presidential candidate Hannah Bruns, stated that this initiative is intended to secure the integrity of the election. 

“Please refrain from making any negative statements about either team, even if you believe them to be true,” Prowell said. 

Jordan Gould, presidential candidate running alongside Mittal, declined to comment about the campaign suspension. 

Bruns directed The Hustler to the Elections Committee upon request for comment.
