Vanderbilt guard Saben Lee became the second Commodore drafted in the 2020 NBA Draft Wednesday after being selected by the Utah Jazz with the 38th pick. The Jazz are in preliminary agreement to trade Lee to the Detroit Pistons.

Lee leaves Vanderbilt as its 23rd all-time leading scorer after an impressive three years in Nashville.

Lee arrived on West End as a 4-star recruit in 2017 and endured one of the worst stretches of losing in Commodore basketball history. Despite this, he enjoyed an excellent career under the tutelage of head coaches Bryce Drew and Jerry Stackhouse en route to an All-SEC Second Team selection following his junior season.

In his three seasons at Vanderbilt, Lee scored in double digits in 69 of 96 games he played in while averaging 10.6, 12.7 and 18.6 points per game respectively over his three years. He led the Commodores in scoring both his sophomore and junior seasons and recorded 30 points on four different occasions his junior year.

In addition, he was top ten in the SEC in both assists and steals his junior season and was one of just five Power 5 conference players to average over 18 points, 4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

Lee declared for the NBA Draft in late March following his stellar 2019-2020 campaign. Thanks to his elite athleticism and accomplished career at Vanderbilt, he will join the Pistons organization as they prepare for the NBA’s regular season beginning in late December.
