R&B duo Chloe x Halle will perform Oct. 21 at 8 p.m., kicking off Vanderbilt Programming Board (VPB)’s virtual VIBES concert series in lieu of traditional events.

VIBES, the live-streamed virtual concert series, will be available to Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff with a maximum capacity of 4,000. There will be additional interactive activities including virtual meet-and-greets with some artists, according to VPB Music Group Chair Abbey Hughes.

The Music Group of the Vanderbilt Programing Board is a student-organized scheduling group responsible for planning events such as Commodore Quake, the Rites of Spring and both a fall and spring concert. However, due to COVID-19 protocol, the VPB Music Group has created a series of virtual concerts in place of the annual events held in the past. Though limited to online platforms, the VIBES series plans to keep as many students as happy and involved as possible.

“Each month is aiming to have a different vibe, so there definitely will be a show that appeals to everyone,” Hughes said.

Sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey claimed the title Chloe x Halle when they officially stepped into the music scene in 2013, although they had performed in minor acting roles in their early teens. In addition to their successful music career, the two have starred in prominent acting roles including the popular “Black-ish” spinoff, “Grown-ish,” and Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” album.

Their music takes musical influence from various genres such as jazz, indie rock, trap, synth-pop and soul. Their album, “The Kids Are Alright,” was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards in 2019, escalating the artists’ fame. You might be familiar with the single, “Do it,” (a popular TikTok sound) off their latest album, “Ungodly Hour,” which was released in June.

The VPB Music Group expects to bring in new artists each month for the remainder of the academic year, and asks that students RSVP here.

“We are going to start to really get active on our social media pages with weekly playlists, member spotlights, artist announcements and hopefully some giveaways, so stay tuned,” Hughes said.
