If you have spent time on Main Campus this past week, it’s hard not to notice the large white tent taking up most of Alumni Lawn.

Vanderbilt is hosting a private reception for former Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos Nov. 8 to honor his service to the university, Director of Strategic Communications Princine Lewis said.

“Alumni Lawn was selected for the event because of its symbolic importance to the university as the site of Commencement and other university events,” she said in an email to The Hustler.

Alumni Lawn is reserved for the “Chancellor’s Farewell Gala” through Nov. 15, according to Vanderbilt’s online reservation portal.

The tent stretches across the length of Alumni Lawn, from the sidewalk in front of Tolman Hall to Alumni Hall. (Photo by Rachel Friedman)
