Vanderbilt’s co-ed a cappella group Harmonic Notion (HN) took the stage on April 13 at Sarratt Cinema for their spring concert, “HN Wrapped.” With a Spotify-inspired theme, a deeply personal tribute to their seniors and a wide-ranging setlist, the performance hit all the right notes — emotionally and musically.
The concert opened with a moment of silence in memory of Nateli Ferguson, a fellow Vanderbilt student who recently passed away, setting a tone of reflection and unity that carried through the evening.
Each member of Harmonic Notion then introduced themselves by sharing their top song of the year, a clever nod to the “Spotify Wrapped” theme. From indie ballads to pop anthems, these musical performances gave the audience a glimpse into the personalities behind the voices — reminding everyone that while the group performs as a unit, it’s made up of unique individuals.
The setlist showcased ten main performances and two small group numbers, highlighting an array of artists like Billie Eilish, Adele, Lizzy McAlpine and Michael Bublé. Vocalists rotated throughout the evening, with standout solos from Riya Narayan (“Doomsday,” “Wildflower”), Julia Mosier (“Wrecking Ball,” “Skyfall”) and Mahi Patil (“Evergreen,” “Dancing with the Devil”), among others. Notably, many of the songs were arranged by the performers themselves — a testament to the group’s versatility and creativity.
While HN is known for their powerful vocals, this concert took things a step further with the addition of dances to several numbers — an ambitious move for an a cappella group. From subtle sway sequences to cross-stage choreography, Cameron Klein and Anabel Macchi successfully added visual dimension to enhance the storytelling behind each song.

Sophomore and treasurer Ellie Parkhill reflected on what made the show special.
“Before the concert began, senior Sean [] pointed out that the senior class had been present for all of our auditions. ‘We all wanted you,’ he said. Sean reminded us that not only did each of us choose this group, but that we were chosen by it,” Parkhill said. “Being in HN was never an obligation but a choice to participate in a community founded on a shared love for music.”
The seniors’ bond was especially evident during their number, “Landslide,” performed by Julia Mosier, Mahi Patil, Sean Richardson and Quinn Welder. The Fleetwood Mac classic, already known for its themes of change and letting go, took on new meaning as the group’s graduating members sang about growing up and moving on from not just Vanderbilt but the a capella group they helped shape.
Before the final song, Cameron Klein surprised the audience with a touching video tribute he made. The video featured messages from group members sharing heartfelt memories and words of love for each graduating senior. It was a reminder of how much Harmonic Notion is more than just a performance group —it’s a family.
“HN Wrapped” closed out with Justin Jesso’s “Lifeline,” led by soloist Cameron Klein. As the final notes echoed through the cinema, Harmonic Notion reminded the audience that the best performances are not just heard; they are felt.
