After capturing the SEC regular season championship on Sunday, Vanderbilt Soccer made more history this week as the team was ranked #7 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

The team jumped five spots after remaining at #12 for the last two weeks. The top-10 ranking is the highest in program history in the coaches poll.

Vanderbilt also has a 13th-best RPI in the country, the third-best in the SEC.

The Commodores won the SEC regular season title outright on Sunday with a 4-1 win over Kentucky. It’s the program’s first SEC title since 1994 when SEC Women’s Soccer was in its infancy. They will be the #1 seed at the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama next week.

Vanderbilt is the highest-ranked team in the SEC this week as South Carolina and Texas A&M dropped from top-10 positions to 14th and 15th, respectively. Both teams suffered upset losses this week. Tennessee also made the rankings, coming in at #12.

After being picked to finish ninth in the SEC to start the season, earning a top-10 ranking this late in the season and capturing the SEC title is certainly an accomplishment for the 15-1-1 Commodores.

“Since the beginning, the one thing that I’ve noticed with this team is that we have so much fight,” senior Gabrielle Rademaker said. “Every year they put us at the bottom of the rankings and we’re just like ‘Not this year. We’re going to prove everyone wrong, we’re going to fight for it.’ And that’s what we did.”

Vanderbilt closes out the regular season on Thursday on the road at Ole Miss.
