Why: There will be a panel discussion regarding the issue of gentrification with speakers including Dr. Malcom Getz, an economic professor working on urban planning, and Dr. Teresa Smallwood, a public theologian specializing on the issues of racial justice. There will be other panelists and residents of the Cayce Homes housing complex.

Why: Former Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell will speak about the growing role of cities in our globalized world as they lead the world in public policy initiatives. It will be an opportunity to learn more about the intersection of local and international policies.

What: Shade Tree Clinic Presents Lefkowitz Hour
When: Wednesday, December 6 at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Light Hall 208
Why: Shade Tree Lefkowitz Hour is an opportunity for students and faculty to learn more about the care provided at the Shade Tree Clinic, Vanderbilt’s free, student-run clinic. Shade Tree Clinic patients will share how legal aid has impacted their lives with the help of the Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP), followed by the MLP team’s unique perspective. The second half of the hour will focus on other significant roles the MLP can play in advocating for patients.

Why: Women from the Nashville community will come to play frisbee in a tournament. The tournament will involve students from Belmont University and University School of Nashville. Members of the Vanderbilt and Nashville community are encouraged to watch.

Where: Sarratt Student Center
Why: The festival is a place to find unique hand-crafted items. Every year, there are Nashville and Vanderbilt artisans, jewelers, potters, fiber artists and printmakers with wonderful gift items. The festival is an annual fundraiser for Sarratt Art Studios and the Sarratt Youth Art Institute.

Why: The Academic Skills & Time Management workshops are designed to assist students who may be having difficulties with classes, wish to improve grade point averages or would like to enhance study techniques. While these workshops are very helpful to students who are experiencing academic difficulties, they are also beneficial to anyone who wishes to become a more efficient learner.
