What: Opioids: A 21st Century Public Health Crisis
When: Friday, April 6 at 12 p.m.
Where: Light Hall, Room 208
Why: The Vanderbilt MPH Program hosts a series of campus events during National Public Health Week to bring together students, faculty and staff from across the university and medical center. Former Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Assistant Commissioner, Stephen Loyd, M.D., will discuss opioids in Tennessee and what public health officials are doing to combat the epidemic.

What: 48 Hour Launch
When: Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m.
Where: Kissam C216
Why: 48-Hour Launch is a weekend-long workshop that teaches entrepreneurial skills to aspiring co-founders in a hands-on environment. The event is composed of mini-lectures, individual mentoring and workshop activities. It’s a great opportunity for you to turn your business ideas into actions. The top teams will receive over $800 in cash prizes.

What: 2018 Vanderbilt China Forum

Where: Vanderbilt Student Life Center Board of Trust Room
Why: Global China Connection at Vanderbilt hosts the Vanderbilt China Forum as an opportunity for the Vanderbilt to learn about Chinese culture, politics and technology. There will be young professionals, scholars and experts to facilitate meaningful discussion with students.

What: InVUsion
When: Saturday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
Where: Alumni Lawn
Why: InVUsion, the MLC’s signature event, is a multicultural festival that highlights the missions, cultures and performances of MLC organizations. At InVUsion, there will be free food from over 20 ethnic restaurants and performances from the Diwali Showcase, Harambe, the Lunar New Year Festival and Café con Leche. There will also be prize giveaways and interactive booths hosted by MLC member organizations to foster a deeper understanding and awareness of different cultures.

What: Russian Cultural Night
When: Sunday, April 8 at 6 p.m.
Where: Vanderbilt Hillel
Why: The Russian Speaking Jewish (RSJ) group will host a Russian Cultural night. The event will include traditional Russian food, Russian cartoons, music, a Durak (Russian cards game) tournament and exhibition of famous Russian Jews.

Where: Villa Place
Why: Located in the Edgehill neighborhood, this one-day music, food and art festival benefits the Organized Neighbors of Edgehill. If you make the short walk to Edgehill, you can expect yummy bites from The Grilled Cheeserie, Daddy’s Dogs, Bradley’s Creamery and more. Local vendors will also be at the festival.

What: 2018 East Nashville Beer Festival

Why: The annual East Nashville Beer Festival is back. This year, there will be an expanded area of Belgian and import beers in addition to a lineup of music curated by Mike Grimes of The Basement East and Grimey’s Record Store.

When: Sunday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
Where: Student Life Center Ballroom
Why: Lambda is throwing its spring PrideFest. Make sure to attend for food, carnival games, an open mic and opportunities to meet people from across campus.

What: Vanderbilt Off-Broadway Presents Little Shop of Horrors
When: Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
Where: Sarratt Cinema
Why: Vanderbilt Off-Broadway presents its 2018 Second Show, Little Shop of Horrors. When Seymour, an average Joe who works at a flower shop in downtown Manhattan, discovers a mysterious new plant species, his life is forever changed.

What: VUPointe Ballet Theatre’s Spring Showcase 2018
When: Sunday, April 8 at 8 p.m.
Where: Sarratt Cinema
Why:  VUPointe Ballet Theatre welcomes the Vanderbilt community as the group returns to the stage for its annual spring showcase. The showcase is made up of classical masterpieces as well as contemporary works. There will be live music by The Vanderbilt Ballet Orchestra to accompany the performance.

Why: The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center hosts a 45-minute outdoor yoga class on Library Lawn. Yoga mats will be provided.

What: Running Club 5k
When: Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m.
Where: Vanderbilt University
Why: This annual 5k raises money for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. The 5k route runs around campus and is open to students and the public. All proceeds from this race go directly to the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

What: Nashville VegFest 2018
When: Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: The Fairgrounds Nashville
Why: Nashville VegFest, a celebration of thoughtful eating and sustainable living, is at the Fairgrounds Nashville. Vegans, vegetarians and the veg-curious will experience and enjoy plant-based food samples, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, children’s activities, giveaways and more. Over 80 vendors will be onsite. Single day tickets are $10.
