Vegan at Vandy: Top winter Munchie Mart picks

Emily+Azzarito
Vegan at Vandy

About an hour ago, I literally walked around Branscomb Munchie and took pictures of everything I’m obsessed with, so please enjoy. Test drive a few of these the next time you grab a swipe and let me know how you liked them.

Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds

Dang these are good. I learned the other day that raw cacao powder has a ton of magnesium and protein, shockingly enough. Since Munchie has yet to offer bags of raw cacao and ordering it by the kilo on Amazon has become logistically unreasonable, these almonds are a great way to get in some cacao, without too much added sweetness.

NuGo Dark Chocolate Bars

Speaking of sweetness, these are literally just delicious candy bars. I think they’re supposed to be ‘protein’ bars since I always find them near the Clif and Luna Bars and they happen to have 10g of protein, but they taste like straight up candy. The Chocolate Pretzel with Sea Salt and the Mint Chocolate Chip ones are my favorites by far.

Naked Green Machine Juice

You will never find me not drinking one of these. I live on Highland Quad, which means most of my meals come from Morgan Munchie. When it’s been three consecutive days of eating nothing but bananas, white rice and assorted brown foods, I certainly crave some chlorophyll. That magic spirulina in the Green Machine definitely hits me with those micronutrients my brain wants, and makes me feel like a health god.

Amy’s Vegan Vegetable Pot Pie

Being a health god is fun and all, but sinking my fork into this individually-portioned pastry filled with gooey goodness makes me feel like everything’s going to be okay with the world. The first time I tried this, I think I cried a little. I heated mine up in the microwave because doing anything else would be too difficult, but it’d probably come out better in the oven. Mine didn’t have that crunchy golden brown crust on top, but its amazing taste still managed to elicit real tears.

Pacific Thai Sweet Potato Soup

How often do you get to eat lemongrass on a weekday? This stuff is organic, if you care, and so wildly wholesome. Sometimes, I’m too hungry to heat it up, so I just pour it straight out of the box onto some rice. That’s a meal, right there. Those hearty chunks of sweet potato and essense of lemongrass will revive you from whatever daily struggles you’ve endured.

McDougall’s Split Pea Soup

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the phrase “16 grams of protein,” but you will be after demolishing one of these lil’ guys. It’s a side, which means you can grab two of these boys and a tub of hummus and call it a swipe. If you’re wondering what I had for dinner tonight, I knocked back a Green Machine, a packet of those Cocoa Roast almonds and a cup of this thick green pea soup, and then washed it all down with a can of chickpeas I found lying around. Go ahead, ask me where I get my protein.
